Square nuts always go with square headed bolts, they have greater contact area to provide more resistance to loosing；

Kep nuts, or K lock nuts, are hex nuts with a free spinning tooth lock washer attached.

Hex type nut include hexagon nut, hex jam nut, hex slotted nut, hex flange nut, hex nylock nut;

Lock nuts include all metal lock nut, nylon insert lock nut

Eye nuts ,also known as ring nuts, are internally threaded nuts with a loop head which is to receive a hook or a rope.Eye nut include round eye nut like DIN582, and triangle or oval eye nut.

Cap nuts, also known as acorn nuts, feature a hex nut base and domed head, cap nuts are designed to cover and protect exposed threads.

We have two types of cap nuts, one type with dome head, standard is DIN1587, the other type of cap nut has a lower profile.  

Weld nuts,

We have hex weld nut, square weld nut, round base weld nut, tab base weld nuts. Hex Weld nuts, feature a normal hex nut shape with projections for welding to another object. Hex weld nuts has three projections or six projections.

Square weld nut has a square nut shape with four projections. Square weld nuts are designed to create a permanent fastening when welded to another object.

Insert Nut include wood insert nut used in furniture, rivet nut, and brass threaded insert nut; Wood insert nut features an internal machine thread and external thread which make it easier to hold in wood panels and hard to pull out.

Thumb nut, also known as knurled nut, features a knurling on head, which makes the hand easy to grip and tighten.

Coupling nuts, also known as coupler nuts, rod couplings, are used to join two threaded rod or pipes or other threaded parts. Hex Coupling nuts feature an external hex shape which is easier for a wrench, while round coupling nuts feature smooth round body.
